Backend Engineer Go with AI Expertise

Job Description

For our client, an international bank based in Vienna, we are seeking an experienced Backend Developer – AI-First. Must have parctical experience with backend Go and Claude Code and GitHub Copilot, Kubernetes (or alternativ Openshift), Apache Kafka or Pulsar.

Work model: Freelancing or B2B 

Start: August 2026

Location: Wienna - hybrid model or remote in EU region

Your mission will be:

• Owner mindset / senior role

• Utilize AI technologies to speed up feature development; create prototypes and proposals for solution migrations
• Develop, improve, and maintain backend systems using Go (must have kriterium) and Java (as a senior beckround, not must) within a Kubernetes environment 
• Design APIs, event-driven architectures, and event schemas
• Work with event streaming and event sourcing (Apache Pulsar or Apache Kafka)
• Implement microservices and Functions as a Service (FaaS)
• Automate integration, testing, and deployment processes using declarative GitOps (ArgoCD)
• Collaborate in requirements analysis; support Product Owners by clarifying system capabilities and constraints
• Operate within an international agile team alongside business analysts, frontend developers, testers, and DevOps

Your core competencies:

• Several years of experience in software development
• Adaptability and strong interest to integrate AI with various projects
• Ability to present prototypes or concepts to senior management
• Pro-active, creative attitude and team orientation
• Excellent communication skill
• Structured working approach and problem solving skills
• Very good command of English (mandatory), German is a plus
